Mazda North America Operations and its insurance company have filed a lawsuit in US Federal Court in Portland, Oregon seeking more than $40 million from Tokyo-based Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd.
The case stems from last summer's ill-fated voyage of Mitsui's Cougar Ace, which was transporting 4,703 new Mazdas across the Pacific when it started taking on water south of the Aleutian Islands. The ship eventually stabilized after listing 60 degrees onto its port side.
