The Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the facility SCRAMP operates, won the 2003 Business of the Year award given by the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented at the Chamber’s 96th Annual Inaugural Celebration & Awards Dinner held Saturday, January 17, at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Monterey.
"What a great way to start the New Year," said Gill Campbell, general manager. "We’re honored to be recognized and realize this award would not be possible without the spirit and support of the entire community.
Last year was a difficult one for SCRAMP, just as it was for many companies affected by the current economy, and that limited us being able to do as much as we have in the past. But we accept this award as acknowledgment; not only for last year, but also for the entire 47 years that SCRAMP has produced major races and contributed millions of dollars to the Monterey Peninsula community."
The Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) has operated Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca since it’s opening in 1957. SCRAMP is a nonprofit organization chartered to benefit local charitable and nonprofit groups, and to promote economic vitality. Race events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca have resulted in more that $10 million being distributed to Monterey Peninsula and Central California groups for youth programs and community service projects, and have generated more than $1 billion in revenue for area businesses. Today, SCRAMP is one of the most important economic and charitable organizations in Monterey County.
